Isn’t it Lovely to Be Heidi Calmus? Special Guest: Heidi Calmus

“I was taking everything that I had learned and now I had three kids that I needed to raise to be good humans…that is the hardest and best ministry out there.”

Isn’t it Lovely? celebrates the conclusion of season 7 with advocate, activist, and beloved YouTube personality Heidi Calmus joining Tracy and Rachel for a special supersized episode! Long before getting recognized for her roles in skits and sketches about parenthood and marriage on the popular Dude Dad vlog, Heidi’s compassion and empathy led her on a path to serve and support vulnerable youth and survivors of human trafficking and abuse through leadership positions with YMCA After School Programs, the Los Angeles Dream Center, and Covenant House California. Heidi details how when online fame hit via Dude Dad’s success and she could no longer provide confidential direct services, she pivoted to work alongside the movement, while also staying at home with her children. Heidi and Tracy discuss the seasons of yielding in marriage and the importance of honoring a partner’s callings, as well as how that can impact identity; Heidi and Rachel talk about the creation of healthy boundaries to protect the sacred parts of a public life. Heidi brings everyone to tears with her grace-filled and authentic wisdom about parenting young children; the group agrees that the car remains the best place to break down in tears (second only to the shower).

What Are You Loving:

Heidi Calmus is a mother to *almost* 4 kids and a wife to her comedic husband, Taylor. For the last 3 years, Heidi has been working alongside Taylor managing an online channel called Dude Dad that creates content related to fatherhood, parenthood, marriage and relationships. She is featured in the videos, helps write and edit scripts, connects with community members, attends speaking engagements and community events, and has learned to roll with the punches wherever they lead. While this is what most people may know Heidi for, her career background and true passion is working in the non-profit sector with homeless and trafficked individuals, where she served for 10 years. She managed a residential program, did street outreach, ran emergency services, case managed both short-term and long-term cases, acted as a survivor advocate in court, developed curriculum, taught classes, provided community trainings and speaking engagements, and participated in law enforcement operations to provide immediate after-care. She worked alongside multiple NGOs and government agencies to provide intensive wraparound services, and will always be eager to continue to find ways to support the movement.
